The new meat marketing system should also start this Wednesday late from the 90s with the idea that to carnage Instead of half a beef, it comes in chunks, as is the case almost everywhere in the world. It won’t be like that.

Faced with pressure from butchers and provincial governments, the Ministry of Agriculture He chose to follow the half steer but instead of being lowered from the truck by a person, he arrived on a wagon at the butcher shop.

Yesterday, the Argentine Center for Agricultural Engineers warned: “In Argentina it is a common matter: many rules are made to break them or to negotiate. This is the case with the marketing of half-bovine meat and its mandatory quartering. All sectors involved are aware that it is necessary improve the traditional transport system of slaughtered meat, guarantee the wholesomeness of the product (temperature and avoid possible contamination) and fundamentally protect the worker from being overweight which jeopardizes his physical health. There have been times when the system has tried to work with a sanitary rail integrating the unloading truck within the butcher shop. The methodology applied it didn’t last longfor various reasons it has stopped working in general and has only been applied in refrigerators or in places of sale which, due to their size, have opted for the system”.

In this way the professional center warns that the trolley too it could fail.

Quartering was promoted by the exporting refrigerators (25 companies grouped in the ABC Consortium) the main beneficiaries but rejected by the majority of the meat supply chain, refrigerators aimed at the domestic market, butcher shops and above all the provinces which at the time were not summoned to the discussion table.

By the way, new system boot days by mechanical means such as calling sanitary trolley, no availability in many meat retailers in different provinces.

The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a new regulation, without considering its date of application.

There would be set:

  • All operations of handling, loading and unloading of meat products in slaughterhouses, processors, warehouses, wholesale or retail shops if the piece is less than 32 kilos, workers can carry them.
  • Set off over 32 kilos in a minimum of two pieces per semi-meat, it can be carried out using push or tow wagons, according to the loading manual of the Ministry of Labour.
  • Trolleys used for this purpose must be built with sanitary materials and designed according to the provisions of Legislative Decree 4238/68.

30% of the meat is sold in supermarkets and 70% in various retail businesses referred to as butchers.

“In order not to continue to fail in the attempt, the measure that is adopted You have to be reasonable.” the Center for Agricultural Engineers was concluded.

The attempt to normalize the sale of meat has been going on for 32 years. Brazil did it. And in Uruguay it also falls apart.

Of the 3.5 million tons of meat, roughly one million is for export. And the rest for domestic consumption.

On the side of the butchers, they believe that exporters, now that China is buying less and international prices are falling, they try to grow internally and drive them away from the business. Hence the spokes of the wheel and the validity of an anachronistic system.
