Domestic workers: with the March increase, what salaries are like and what benefits are added

In March, comes the latest increase for domestic workers of the four tranches agreed between the National Ministry of Labor and the National Commission for Work in Private Households in the latest 24% wage agreement reached last November.

As agreed, the non-cumulative increase was distributed as follows: 8% in December, 7% from January 2023, 5% in February. Now, in March, it will be 4%.

The resolution signed at the time provides for a review clause for March 2023, after the meeting of the National Council for Labour, Productivity and the Minimum Vital and Mobile Wage.

This is one of 6 increases that come with the third month of the year and will put more pressure on pockets.

Maid: how are the salaries

  • For the fifth categoryand the most requested locally, that of employees for general tasks, the salary will be as follows: $659.50 per hour and $83,482.50. per month with no withdrawal and $611.50 per hour and $75,074.56 per month, with withdrawal.
  • For the second categorythe one of assistance and care of people: Salary will be $738 per hour and $93,032.24 per month, without retirement; and $659.50 per hour and $83,482.37 per month, with withdrawal.
  • For those framed in the third categorythe one of homemade: salary will be $659.50 per hour and $80,789.39 per month. In this case there is no withdrawal.
  • For the second categorythe one of personal for specific tasks: Salaries will be $766 per hour and $95,248.12 per month, without retirement; and of $698.50 and $85,565, the month with withdrawal.
  • For the first categorythe one of supervisors: Numbers remain at $808 per hour and $102,587.72 per month, with no withdrawal. And $738 per hour and $92,098.52.

Plus I know an additional 30% will apply. on minimum wages for each of the categories for personnel performing tasks in the provinces of La Pampa, Río Negro, Chubut, Neuquén, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego and in the Buenos Aires district of Patagones.

The increase will be received in March for those who charge by the hour, and only in April for those who charge monthly.

With this last adjustment, and according to government sources, the annual increase in wages of workers in private households in the period between March 2022 and 2023 it will be 119.8%.​ The increase will impact the minimum wages of employees working on an hourly and monthly basis; and will benefit around 1,300,000 workers in private homes.

Maid: more concessions

Less than a week ago, the national government announced the extension until the end of the year of the Registered Program which adds further benefits for domestic workers.

Now they can too access unemployment coverage AND pension rights have been extended. On this last point, employees who work less than 16 hours a week will be able to access the pension.

What is the Registrada plan and how it benefits employers and employees

The revamped initiative was first launched in October 2021 with the aim of reduce labor informality in the sector of workers in private homes, ensure permanence in registered work, pallets and work on gender equality, as it is the sector that employs the most women.

In its first version, the plan consisted in the transfer for six months between 30% and 50% of the salary – depending on the income level of the employer- to a free salary account in the name of the Banco Nación employee.

In this renewed version the advantage becomes 50% in all cases of the minimum monthly net salary of the worker or of the worker in a private home corresponding conventionally, on the basis of the hours and categories declared by one’s employer at the time of registration for the benefit.

In this way, the national State expands the contribution that will pay the salaries of new hires for six months. Program enrollment It will remain open throughout the year.

The benefit will correspond to all employer families with incomes below the non-taxable minimum. And in cases where the contracting person is a worker with a disability or with children with disabilities, is a transvestite, transsexual or transgender, or a worker who is a regular employee of the ACOMPAÑAR program (whether or not he continues to receive the economic benefit), the benefit will be extended for 8 months instead of 6.

If the employer does not meet the established requirements, “You must make full refund of the amount in pesos that you have been granted under the aforementioned Program”warned by the Government.

With this benefit, domestic workers do not lose the possibility of accessing other aids through the National Social Security Administration (ANSeS), such as the Universal Child Allowance (AUH), discounts on the SUBE Card for public transport and the Food Card of the Ministry of Social Development.

Unemployment benefit and extension of pension rights

As announced last Thursday, in addition to the relaunch of the Registered programme, a modification to the Labor Law was added to the same initiative. In this way the integration of domestic personnel to the services of the Supplementary Unemployment Allowance System established by Law 24.013 was established. And the right to a pension is recognized to employees with less than 16 hours a week.

Furthermore, employees of the Casas Particulares will be able to access the unemployment benefit procedure, for two months and in ways compatible with other social benefits.
