This was finally announced by the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ENRE). the new tariff tables for users of the Edenor and Edesur metro petrol stationswhere there will be an average increase of 60% throughout the year and which will be applied in two sections, the first in April and the second in June.
As Clarín anticipated at the beginning of February, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ENRE) confirmed the increase which is being applied as a “readjustment” to the cost of the distribution service.
The increase, which adds to the one applied in February for the wholesale cost of energy, will be applied in two tranches: the first from April and the second in June 2023. This was made official with ENRE resolutions 240 and 241, published in the Official Gazette.
The increase in rates will result in an increase that would not exceed $348 in the first tranche of April and $421 in the second tranche of June for more than 70% of residential users – around 3.8 million – which fall into categories R1 and R2.
Even within these categories more than 700,000 beneficiaries of the social tariff enter, as reported by ENRE in a press release.
In the case of General Rate users – for non-residential use – there will be an increase of 34% on average in April and another 34% in June in the G2 category.
The ENRE Comptroller, Walter Martello, assured that “in order to define this tariff update The central criterion was the protection of the family economy of low- and middle-income users.
He similarly stressed that the replenishment is “fair and reasonable” and “below this year’s projected retail inflation,” while noting that it does not follow “company-requested hikes that have fluctuated by 300 percent.”
Depending on the distributor and the consumption that is made at home and, finally, also taking into account the segment (depending on the subsidies) in which it is located, the electricity bill in AMBA will increase in April between 13% and 34% from that received for February consumption.
ENRE has provided various cases on the impact of the rate readjustment, excluding taxes:
- A user’s invoice Level 1 of income above 3.5 basic baskets – from the Edenor company and which belongs to category R1 with an average consumption of 80 kilowatts/hour (kw/h) per month, it will drop from $1,003 to $1,140 in April (+13.66%), e then in June it will be $1,310 (14.91%).
- On the other hand, a user of Edesur Level 1 but belonging to category R2 (using more than 150 kW/h per month) will have a utility bill that will drop from $2,773 to $3,103 in April (+11.9%), and then will pay $3,503 in June (+12.89%), in the case of an average consumption of 225 kw/h per month.
- Switching to Level 3 with average income – An R1 category Edesur user with an average consumption of 73 kW/h per month will pay $593 in April (+28.08%) and $756 (+27.49%) in June.
- A client of the same income level, but of category R2 of Edenor with an average consumption of 238 kw/h will pay $1,795 in April (+24.05%) and $2,216 in June (+23.45%).
- For the segment of lower income level 2 -from R1 category Edenor and with an average consumption of 80 kW/h, the bill will be $570 in April (+31.34%) and $740 in June (+29.82%).
- Finally, a user of the same segment, but of Edesur and R2 category with an average consumption of 225 kw/h, will pay $1,499 in April (+28.23%) and $1,899 in June (+26.68%).
Even if the percentage increases in levels 2 and 3 they are greater than 1this is why starting from a lower base and from the ENRE ensure that the impact the bill is 40% lower than that of the latter segment.
In the case of Level 2, the total bill will be on average 46% lower than that of Level 1 and in Level 3 39% lower than that of higher income users.
The tariff adjustment had been anticipated in early February by the undersecretary of energy, Flavia Royón, after holding public hearings in January.
The undersecretary underlined in the press conference that “this policy of segmentation continues in the line traced by Minister (of the Economy) Massa to lead to fiscal order and an orderly state; we need to be more efficient in the allocation of subsidies”.
As regards the distributors, as part of the tariff adjustment, the ENRE ordered Edenor and Edesur to present the investment plan for this year with the works necessary for the expansion and improvement of the electricity grid, with the aim to ensure the normal supply from the service .
