With inflation not stopping its rise as a backdrop, Government allowed increase of 19%, split in two at 9.5% each for internet rates, fixed and mobile telephony. Uploads will take place in May and July, as stated on Monday by Resolution 725/2022published in the Official Gazette.
The document, signed by Claudio Ambrosini, president of the National Communications Entity (ENACOM) —the body that regulates the price of these services—, refers to these increases. And in addition, a certain increase is established in the maximum amount that cell phone companies can charge in their prepaid format.
By Resolution 725 and taking as reference to the prices enforced and permitted by regulations 1466/2020; 203/2021 and 862/2021, the range of providers will be able to update the retail values of any of their plans, “in postpaid and mixed modalities”.
“It is stipulated that Licensees of Mobile Communications Services (SCM) may apply beginning May 1, 2022, an increase in the value of the retail prices of any of their postpaid plans and mixed modalities, up to NINE AND HALF PERCENT. (9.5%) “, indicates the text published in the Official Gazette. “Beginning July 1, 2022, the aforementioned providers can apply a new increase of up to NINE AND A HALF PERCENT (9.5%),” he continued.
This update is added to what was made last January, at 9.8% and it only reached the Internet, fixed telephony and cable and satellite television companies, with less than 100 thousand clients.
Prices for “pure prepaid modality” of cellular telephony are set as follows:
- Top-up of 50 MB of mobile data per day: $ 27.40 in May and $ 30 in July, including taxes.
- Second voice: $ 0.42 in May and $ 0.46 in July, including taxes.
- SMS: $ 5.50 in May and $ 6 in July, plus taxes.
Meanwhile, article 5 of the Resolution published this Monday in the BO warns of the “irregularity” of any increase in retail prices, “which would have been applied by Licensees of ICT Services or DTH (Satellite TV) and exceeded the amounts expressly authorized”, in the way this scenario occurs, “It should be returned to its users on the next invoice issuedwith update and interest subject to the same interest rate applied to their customers for late payment of invoices ”.
