With a clearer horizon due to the self-exclusion of Mauricio Macri, Patricia Bullrich had lunch with the leadership of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA). The PRO candidate-she will contest that party’s inmate with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta-she said she wanted an “iimportant industry, integrated in the world and competitive”.
The former security minister admitted that industrialists suffered in the 2018-2019 recession and noted that his political space has learned to approach problems in another way. “We go to work competitiveness, deregulation, improve the tax system, also paying attention to the issues of work and territorial integration”, he defined.
In a speech that lasted nearly two hours, Bullrich asked and received questions. Industrialists have expressed concern about the “structural problem” such as the availability of foreign currency. They asked about the timing of normalization of the exchange rate regime. “The private sector must invest and be prepared for the racesnapped Bullrich. He has promised to “level the field” by the state so that everyone has the same rules of the game, according to his interlocutors. “He will not choose winning or losing sectors,” he stressed.
In keeping with his public address, Bullrich said he was thinking about a stabilization program and would prioritize trade deals with other blocs of countries. When he referred to this macroeconomic structure, the most detailed explanations were provided by Luciano Laspina (MP and a sort of “minister of the economy” for Bullrich), while Dante Sica -former minister of industry- spoke of trade agreements and the possibilities of industrialists in that direction.
There was agreement between politicians and businessmen on the engines of the economy: energy, mining, knowledge-based services, agriculture and tourism. “They will help grow here, because they are also the ones that will allow us to insert ourselves more in the global context”, they summarized. They understand that they are the most dynamic companies in the world.
In addition to Laspina and Sica, Bullrich was joined by Federico Pinedo (former senator), Alberto Föhrig (defined as chief adviser internally) and José Nuñez (legislator for Santa Fe). Lunch was with the UIA board of directors. The president -Daniel Funes de Rioja- was with Luis Betnaza, Eduardo Nougués, Adrián Kaufmann Brea, Luis Tendlarz, Miguel Angel Rodríguez, Martín Rappallini and Diego Coatz, executive director.
Bullrich reiterated that the “the public sector that has to do its homework” generate macroeconomic improvements. And that private individuals will then make the necessary investments so that there are new jobs and greater working dynamics.
The UIA gave them “the white paper”, in which they set out their vision of industrial development and the economy. The factory bosses have lunched with political figures and will invite other candidates.
