For years, Carrefour has owned Banco de Servicios Financieros, a BCRA-regulated entity, from which it offers credit cards to half a million customers across the country. Now, the retail chain’s bet is to “widen that pie” and offer them to him banking services to people who so far cannot find a way to finance themselves within the system.

This was explained to the press by Mariana Lope, president and general manager of the BSF currently there is a universe of 75% of applicants of these credit cards on which Carrefour cannot activate the plastic due to not having the necessary credit conditions. With this new app, what you are looking for is Offer your customers an alternative to cash, offer them discounts and benefits and at the same time they can build their financial history.

“Depending on their individual behavior, the entity may provide you with the Mi Carrefour Crédito card after an analysis period, as well as the other products it offers such as personal loans, insurance and assistance”, they explained in the company. Furthermore, since it is a Mastercard card, these users can use it to make purchases in other businesses.

“We have 620 stores across the country. The idea is that customers can load the card, cash out, cash out and consult all kinds of doubts at the supermarket checkout, or digitally if you prefer”, said Lope, who has decided to call this foray “fintrail”, or a conjunction between the fintech world and large-scale retail. .

Lope highlighted the potential for financial inclusion of this type of initiative. “Today 35% of the 500,000 people who have a Carrefour credit card do not have another card. We know there’s unmet demand and we’re targeting that audience.”. While the app will be available to an additional audience, there are two broad age groups that will find additional discounts: young people between 18 and 24 years old and adults over 60 years old.

“We want our customers to save on each of their purchases. With this new program, each level will allow different benefits and discounts that can be accessed easily via your mobile phone with the My Carrefour Card application,” explained Francisco Zoroza, Corporate Affairs Director of Carrefour Argentina.

More than 140 million transactions are carried out in Carrefour every year. The average ticket is $11,000, and about a third of these purchases are currently paid for in cash. The bet is to digitize these payments and offer these customers additional benefits for their consumption.

My Carrefour Courageous is the name assigned to this program and is made up of the well-known Mi Carrefour Clásico, for discounts and promotions in Carrefour stores, to which is now added Mi Carrefour Prepaid, through which you can access a rechargeable Mastercard .
