A few days before the beginning of June, together with the prospect of receiving the Christmas bonusconsumers will also need to factor in the battery of increases in goods and services that are already scheduled during that month.
It happens that in addition to the inflation of the “changuito” or basic consumption inherent in the food basket, the sixth month of the year will be characterized by increases in transport (subways, buses and AMBA trains)in private school fees, private medicine and fuel, among others.
- 1. Public transport in the AMBA . Effective June 1, an 8.6 percent increase in public transportation fares will go into effect in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). This is the third application of a new monthly update formula that will apply until July and is adjusted according to the Greater Buenos Aires Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by INDEC.
According to this mode, the minimum bus ticket in AMBA from June will cost $46.35 and that of the train will fluctuate between $22.51 and $29.12, according to the line
The company Subterráneos de Buenos Aires SE (SBASE) instead confirmed the new increase in the metro fare. Starting Monday, June 5, the ticket will go up $7 to $74, while the Premetro will be worth $26.
- 2. Private schools. The Ministry of Economy added private schools to the Fair Prices program in February. The deal consisted of a capped school basket, and they also negotiated a cap on tuition increases. But the inflationary escalation forced to renegotiate those increases and therefore in June school fees will increase by 11.1% in the city of Buenos Aires and by 7.5% in Greater Buenos Aires.
- 3. Prepaid As happens month after month, prepaid cards will also have an increase in June. On this occasion, the increase will be 5.49%, which will be applied equally to all users, without differentiated increases based on income, as happened last April.
- 4. Fuels. After the renewal of the price agreement with the government, the oil companies will implement a 4% average increase in petrol and diesel they sell throughout the country in June.
The increase guideline established by the Fair Prices program was agreed between the Ministry of Commerce and the companies YPF, Axion (PAE), Shell (Raízen) and Puma (Trafigura). The 4% increases are expected to be repeated in the following months, July and August.
- 5. Internet, Cellular and Cable: Starting next month, monthly increases of 4.5% – retroactive to May 2023 – are added for postpaid or blended offers of mobile telephony, Internet access services, fixed telephony and cable or satellite television. Thereafter, the 4.5% increase will be repeated each month at a rate of up to 4.5% of the values updated on the last day of the previous month.
- 6. Rentals. It is not for all tenants, but for those who have to sign a new rental contract or renew it, know that they will have to face 100% annual increases in the values to be paid, according to the variation of the Leasing Contract Index (ICL), created by the Central Bank (BCRA) which foresees a mix between increases in inflation and wages
- 7. Fees. In May, the government removed subsidies on energy tariffs for users in the highest income bracket. With which, from June, consumers must pay the full rate
- 8, Domestic workers: According to the update, released by the National Commission for work in private homes, three brackets of increases were applied to the March salary. The scheme was as follows; in April there was a 14% increase; in May 7%; and in June they will receive another 6% increase.
