The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, will go to Davos today at 6pm to present the libertarian adjustment plan. The agenda will include meetings of high level with bankers, tycoons and the head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, in a climate of waiting for the reforms contained in the omnibus law that Congress is discussing and for the implementation of the program started.
“The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, will leave this Monday for the city of Davos, where he will accompany President Javier Milei in his participation in the World Economic Forum. In this framework, the head of the Treasury Palace will hold numerous bilateral meetings,” they confirmed by Economy.
Caputo’s agenda in the European city will begin on Tuesday afternoon when he will accompany the president and chief of staff Nicolás Posse in their meeting with Georgieva. That will be the most important meeting, after closing a deal last week with the organization that cancels debt payments through April.
The agreement meant a “pause” for the government, since the IMF will release 4.7 billion dollars which will be used to cancel deadlines which fall before the end of January as well as those of March and April. But the organization hopes to see progress also in the increase in electricity and gas tariffs and with the legislative package, which includes more taxes, the abolition of pension mobility and privatisations.
Furthermore, on Wednesday the minister will present the panel “Dialogue on the National Strategy on Argentina” on the main guidelines of the economic program. Next, Caputo and Posse will hold meetings with Glencore CEO Gary Nagle; and with Joseph Romanelli, president of MSD Merck International Human Health. Foreign Minister Diana Mondino will also participate in this last meeting. Caputo will subsequently meet the president of Banco BTG, André Esteves.
Also on the Davos agenda is a meeting with the Vice President of International Public Policy amazon, Michael Punk, in which he will accompany Nicolás Posse. They will also have a meeting with Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and president of the World Economic Forum.
Furthermore, Caputo will participate in a panel on the topic of “LATAM economic realism”, in which the debt of Latin America and the consequent fiscal pressures will be discussed, and will take part in the “Accessing LATAM” working dinner in which there will be a discussion on the agenda for development, technology and artificial intelligence in the region.
Finally, the minister will participate on Thursday in the panel on “Prevention of economic fractures”. moderated by Kristalina Georgieva. Within this framework, different ways to strengthen the foundations of a growth-oriented global economy will be discussed with economic leaders. The agenda will end with the meeting with Posse, Mondino and the president of the LDC group, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus; and its CEO, Michael Gelchie.
Milei and his entourage will arrive in Davos on Wednesday. The president will give a speech there on Wednesday and is expected to maintain contacts with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and the German Social Democrat Olaf Scholz. The trip will be short because the president wants to closely follow the debate on legislative reform. Next week, he will also face the first CGT general strike against the DNU.
