The Islamist group Hamas announced this Monday that the hostages Yossi Sharabi53 years old, and Itay Svirsky, 38, died in captivity, in a propaganda video he had been promoting since Sunday. They attributed their deaths to Israeli bombing.
Broadcast on its Telegram channels, the group first shows the two hostages asking the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to stop the war because “they are in danger”, on a date to be defined.
Subsequently, hostage Noa Argamani, 26, who is reportedly still alive, he tells how his fellow prisoners died.
“They put me in a building. It was bombed by an Israeli Defense Force (IDF) airstrike, from an F16 fighter plane. Three rockets were fired. Two of the rockets exploded and the other didn’t,” he explains Noa Argamani.
The young woman says that she, Itay and Yossi were in that building, together with the militiamen of the al Qasam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, responsible for the brutal attack on 7 October in Israel, which caused over 1,200 deaths and around 250 injuries . kidnapped.
“After the building we were in was hit, tWe are all buried under the rubble. Al Qasam soldiers saved my life and that of Itay. Unfortunately we couldn’t save Yossi,” explains the hostage.
“After two nights, Itay and I were transferred to another location. While we were being transported, Itay was hit by another IDF airstrike. He did not survive,” continues Noa, whose release on humanitarian grounds was widely requested, as his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the veracity of the information provided in the Hamas propaganda video.
Before Noa Argamani’s story, the video includes testimonies from Itay and Yossi, in which they talk about the difficult conditions of prison, without water or food, and ask Netanyahu to end the war, statements they could have made under pressure.
“I have been abandoned by my government twice, the first time when I was kidnapped in Beeri and the second time now. Please, Netanyahu, stop this war, bring us home. The conditions are very difficult, we have no food or water. I am in danger everywhere.” parts,” Itay Svirsky is heard saying at the beginning of the video.
“As the war continues, the situation becomes more and more difficult. We are more and more in danger. That is why the war must end,” says Yossi Sharabi.
136 hostages remain inside the Strip, although it is estimated that around 25 may be dead, according to intelligence information gathered by Israel.
In total, 110 hostages have been released so far, 105 of them during a truce agreement in November; while the Army recovered the bodies of eleven hostages who died during captivity, three of whom were killed by mistake by Israeli troops in combat.
Yesterday, as the war marked 100 days, the families of the hostages called for a massive 24-hour demonstration in Tel Aviv to demand the government do everything it can and negotiate everything necessary to bring them all back to Israel, while Netanyahu is busy maintaining the military pressure on Hamas as the only alternative.
