Some of the baking centers that will increase the prices of their products from this Friday will be those of Merlo, Ituzaingó, Marcos Paz, Las Heras, Moreno, General Rodríguez, San Miguel, José C. Paz, Malvinas Argentinas, Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Tigre, San Fernando and San Pedroamong others.
“In principle we have decided to increase all our products by 20% starting from Friday The suggested price per kilo of bread will be 1,800 pesos in neighborhood bakeriesbut we do not exclude that in the coming weeks we will have to increase our prices again”, he explained Clarion Martín Pinto, president of the Merlo Industrial Bakery Center.
In this way, this 20% It won’t be the last increase, due to the strong increases in supplies and spare parts for bread machines. Additionally, the industry expects new tariff amounts for electricity and gas servicestherefore in the following weeks they could adjust the value of their products again.

“Every week we consistently have increases of 5, 2, 3% and this seems to have no end. We’re melting away working and it’s getting worse and worse”, observes Pinto, who also regrets the fact that the decline in bakery turnover has decreased significantly in recent times.
And he added: “Unfortunately we have no other alternative, given the repeated increases we suffer daily in factors of production and raw materials.”
Regarding his business, the representative of the Panaderos de Merlo commented that he had to stop delegating tasks and get himself to make sandwiches and distribute the bread.
“People arrive with the same money as before, but now they buy less and less. The customers are the same, but our billing has decreased a lot, about 20% in the last month”, underlined Pinto.
Accordingly, the suggested price per kilo of bread from this Friday on bakeries in the suburbs of Buenos Aires will reach 1,800 pesos, increasing by 300 pesos on average compared to the last adjustment in December.
“Since October we have noticed an increase in all products and in December it became more pronounced. In December we increased by 15 percent and found ourselves behind the annual inflation. Flour, which is our main raw material, had an increase by 180% in 2023 and us by 140%,” described the trader.
As for his vision of the future of the sector, the Bakers leader warned “What happens will get worse and worse“due to expected increases in services with the elimination of subsidies.
