After the Ministry of Transport reported the withdrawal of subsidies to public transport companies across the country, the president of the Passenger Transport Business Chamber clarified that for now this measure “does not affect” AMBA users. However, he warned that if the goal of eliminating subsidies in the region was achieved, bus fare would be mediocre “It would be about 1,500 pesos” at the current value.

“This is nothing new for us. We represent the metropolitan transport lines of the City and this has a direct impact on the lines within the country. What the press release conveys about us, It all started two days ago with the implementation of the rate increase and a ticket starting at 270 dollars”, confirmed Jorge Troilo, head of the transport sector.

In a channel note TN, Troilo explained that until March 31 “there are no changes on passenger subsidies”, since until that day “there is time to register the SUBE card”. But he anticipated that the government’s elimination of subsidies will be developed “gradually and over just over a year”.

“The increases will be given month by month and progressively. According to what they told us, the total withdrawal will take place after one year”, confirmed the head of the body with jurisdiction in the City and Greater Buenos Aires.

And he added: “We don’t know what the parameter will be for directly subsidizing users. That is a Government decision. Our system is always regulated by the State and how much it sets the cost of the ticket.”

Finally, he estimated what the current value of the ticket would be if a similar measure were implemented in the AMBA: “Today, without any type of compensation, the average ticket would be around 1,500 pesos.”

The provision that impacted this Thursday morning provides for the “Immediate” elimination of the Internal Compensation Fundwhose millionaire sums have been collected by bus companies operating outside AMBA.

As reported by the Ministry of Transport, the Government will reduce the subsidy to companies that provide passenger transport services under national jurisdiction, to concentrate aid on users who most directly need it, channeling this assistance through the SUBE.

“This is equal assistance for everyone, regardless of where they live, and which implies a 55% discount on the price of the public transport ticket”, stated the Secretariat, underlining that “the decision of the national State” is that the funds reach citizens directly, without intermediaries of any kind, for the benefit of the people who need them most.”
