Streaming service Netflix has announced that it will increase rates in Argentina and the impact on bills will match 72% in the case of the basic plan. The increase for the standard plan is 71.5% and 67.3% for the premium.
These new values will apply, in principle, to new users. They will subsequently come into effect for current customers who will receive an email informing them of this increase, 30 days before price changes.
In turn, the platform explained that the update date depends on the billing date of each customer.
Since this service is consumed in dollars – although the value is expressed in pesos – some taxes are applied to the price of the subscription. These include VAT (21%), advance payments on income and personal property taxes (30%) and NATIONAL tax (8%).
“Taxes may vary by country, state, territory and city, and are based on the rates applicable at the time Netflix is charged. These amounts may change over time and based on local tax requirements,” the company explains on its website.
Additionally, “Netflix charges your monthly subscription in Argentine pesos (ARS). For technical reasons, card issuers may convert some international charges to United States Dollars (USD), which explains why the charge on your statement appears in USD.”

“We want to thank you for being a Netflix subscriber since 2015. We hope you are enjoying everything we have to offer. We are writing to let you know that Premium plan price will be updated to $9,699 (tax not included). Therefore, your new monthly cost will be $9,699 (excluding taxes) starting May 10, 2024,” describes the message Netflix sent to its customers.
Extras for shared subscription
Since last year, Netflix has imposed an action to prevent its customers from sharing the service without paying for it. From there a surcharge was born for those who have a standard or premium plan. The amount charged for each additional member is of $2,499 per month for each addition.
“People who are not part of your household will need to sign up to have their own account and watch Netflix. In many countries, you can purchase extra member space to add an extra member to your account,” they indicate.
And in a notable note, from the platform they make this clear “Extra members have their own account and password, but the membership is paid for by the person who invited them to share your Netflix account.” And in this regard he adds: “Each plan determines the number of extra member seats you can add.”
