Demand for diesel lies in the highest levels in recent years and this is causing problems. In the agricultural provinces (Córdoba, La Pampa, San Luis and Santiago del Estero), diesel sales are 19% higher than last year.

But the situation is replicated in almost all the neighboring provinces, where they are also almost 20% more than last year. On the coast, there are sales peaks in Entre Ríos, Corrientes and Missions. Although the oil companies have increased fuel for vehicles with foreign patentsthe difference in amounts is felt. In Uruguay, diesel costs 163% more and in Brazil 119%. The temptation to fill up the tanks at Argentine suppliers is great.

Formosa also has suppliers with high demand. One explanation could be that charging in neighboring Paraguay is 119% more expensive.

Neuquén, Mendoza, Catamarca and La Rioja are also bordering on high demand. The pumps in Chile, on the other side of the mountain range, load 90% more diesel.

“The country imports 30% of its diesel production to supply the local market. The value of fuels at the international level is at an all-time high and logistics are limited due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine ”, they clarify in YPF.

A striking case is that of Tucumán. The transport associations have started a protest. Two weeks ago, the Tucuman governor Osvaldo Jaldo had ensured the supply in his territory.

The president said he had obtained an increase in the oil quota sent by the YPF to Tucumán, according to media in that province. The request was accepted by Mauricio Martín, vice president of the oil company, and at the same meeting Jaldo also mentioned sending supplies to the refining plant that Refinor owns in the province.

But the bearers of Tucuman complain. The governor’s promise does not appear to be fulfilled.

“The costs of importing fuel reach the highest values recorded for our region, greatly widening the gap with neighboring countries. The above exerts an unusual pressure on border consumption at the national level, which explains the unusual growth in demand in the north-western and north-eastern regions, “according to YPF.

The oil companies have approved the national government’s decision to increase the amount of biodiesel cut in their diesel. This measure will generate a higher economic cost, e they decided to move it by 12% at final prices.

It was believed that this decision would alleviate demand, but so far there are no signs in this direction. In Mendoza the number of Chilean vehicles coming to load would have decreased, but it cannot yet be said that this is a trend.
