Regarding France Inter, the president of the Renaissance group in the National Assembly believes that it is better for companies to redistribute their profits in wage increases and price cuts than to tax them.

United Kingdom, Italy, Spain… Some of our neighbors have voted to create an exceptional tax on the profits obtained by the giants of the energy sector in this period of inflation.

For the moment, the two largest economies in the euro zone, Germany and France, refuse to do so. If TotalEnergies or the transporter CMA CGM have been reaping copious profits for a few months, the government and the Renaissance group in the Assembly prefer to temporize.

“The question is: what do they do with these extra earnings?”

This is how Aurore Bergé recalled it this morning at the microphone of Inter of France.

Instead of taxing profits more, the presidential majority, which has pledged not to raise any taxes, prefers for now to trust companies to manage this windfall.

Actions at the request of the government

The target companies have so far taken action: 12 cents discount on a liter of fuel at motorway service stations all summer (after a 10-cent discount in April-May) for TotalEnergies. Discounts of 10 to 20% on container rentalor about 500 euros, for CMA CGM.

Will these actions be enough to avoid the tax?
