The deputies approved, overnight from Thursday to Friday and against the advice of the Government, the increase in the regulated price at which EDF is obliged to resell part of its nuclear electricity to its competitors under the Arenh.
Thanks to a coalition of opposition votes, the Assembly approved, by 167 votes in favor and 136 against, an LR amendment that raises this fixed rate from the current 42 euros to “at least 49.5 euros” per megawatt hour (MWh) as of January 1. , 2023.
Against the opinion of LREM
This obligation, known as Arenh (regulated access to historical nuclear electricity), has been imposed on EDF since 2011 as part of the opening of the electricity market to competition.
Maud Bregeon, rapporteur of the LREM for the bill on purchasing power in the energy component, opposed this amendment although she recognized that this device needs to be revised.
However, the amendment was adopted thanks to the voices of RN and Nupes, several deputies of which denounced the cost of this device for EDF, forced to sell part of its production at a loss and whose executive announced the renationalization.
This year, EDF was forced to sell an additional 20 TWh to its competitors, for a total of 120 TWh, under the Arenh. The additional volume had been paid at 46.2 euros per MWh.
