Major trading players are pledging to reduce their energy use this winter, as fears of a Russian gas supply cut mount. Leclerc, Système U, Auchan, Carrefour, Lidl, Intermarché, Picard… They have all committed themselves, under the aegis of the Perifem association, to take concrete measures that will be applicable from October 15.
“The Perifem association has taken measures, some fifteen already for this winter” to “reduce our consumption, adjust it, optimize it,” commented Michel-Edouard Leclerc, a guest Monday morning on franceinfo.
Distributors also commit to turning off the illuminated signs as soon as the store closes, to reduce the light in the sales areas, to move the production of ice cream or even to cut off air renewal at night…
Even if that means going to store closings if necessary. “We can close the stores in certain time slots (…) we will not have courage, we are fighting for our country,” said Michel-Edouard Leclerc.
Measures that are also in the interest of players to reduce their consumption. “The electricity bill is paid by the distributors”, recalls the head of the strategic committee of the E.Leclerc centers.

For Michel-Edouard Leclerc, it is up to “entrepreneurs” to set an example. “For this winter, with the risk of power outages or power outages, I think it would be dishonest to ask consumers to be sober if we businesses are not exemplary,” he explained.

“The professionals have taken the file in hand.
