Two years from the opening day of the Olympic Games, recruitment, in a context of labor shortages, is a factor of concern. Paris 2024 claims 150,000 jobs mobilized by the event.
“For us, the vast majority are still service providers. But yes, for the specific contracting of 2024 it is a challenge,” Tony Estanguet, president of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop), acknowledged in early July. an interview in Sunday newspaper.
Within two years, the Cojop workforce should reach 4,500 employees. Qualified jobs in the fields of business development, project management, IT, architecture or events.
“At the moment we cannot complain. Lots of resumes coming. As for the volunteers, we don’t worry, the world of sport is the first associative fabric in France”, assured Tony Estanguet at the beginning of July.
For the Olympic Games in Paris, 45,000 volunteers are needed. The recruitment campaign will officially start in February 2023.
Sectors in tension
But of the 150,000 jobs mobilized for the Games, some belong to sectors already in tension: construction, freight or passenger transport drivers, hotels and restaurants…
Security is also a key issue. During the Games, 7,000 to 11,000 members of the security forces will be on deck each day, along with some French Navy and Air Force personnel.
Above all, between 22,000 and 33,000 private agents will be needed to ensure the security of the Olympic venues in particular (baggage check-in, spectator screening, etc.). We must not only recruit them, but also train them. However, for the moment, the candidates do not push each other at the gate of the Games. The blame lies with salaries that are too low for very hard work, and with the global security law, which prevents companies from hiring candidates with residence permits of less than 5 years in a sector where 4 out of 10 agents do not. . not have French nationality.
Emmanuel Macron brought together a dozen ministers this week to take stock of the organization of the Olympic Games and its challenges. The President of the Republic will then meet with Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Another stage point is planned “at the beginning of the school year” with the Paris city council, the Île-de-France region, the elected officials of Seine-Saint-Denis or the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF).
The Elysée intends to organize this type of meeting “quarterly” from the beginning of the school year to “maintain the current speed and accelerate”, “anticipate crises and threats” and be “transparent about the reality of the work carried out, about the points of uncertainty and frailties”.
