MEPs have just voted for a specific aid of 230 million euros for homes that heat with fuel oil. A greater boost than the government was willing to give. The Executive defended the economic support of the State to the most modest households with an endowment limited to 50 million euros. But the LR deputies managed to get an amendment voted with some of the other opposition groups that provides for an allocation of 230 million euros, so that this financial support can benefit a greater number of households. A vote that has not yet been confirmed as part of the parliamentary review of the purchasing power bill, which has not yet been definitively approved.
How to help all users of diesel boilers? The conditions for the distribution of this State impulse are not specified in the voted amendment. But if this budget allocation were distributed among the 3.5 million households equipped with diesel boilers, the average amount of aid would be limited to 65 euros. A drop of water compared to the price you have to pay to fill the tank.
In one year, the price of fuel has almost doubled
On average, for a house of 100 m2, with a full tank of 2,000 liters, you can heat yourself from autumn to spring. In recent years, these 2,000 litres, generally purchased at the end of summer, cost between 1,400 and 1,700 euros. But in the last twelve months, the average price of fuel oil has almost doubled. It peaked last June before falling slightly. Thus, to have 2,000 liters delivered this week, the bill will exceed 3,000 euros.
A bill much higher than the one paid by homes for heating with gas, electricity, wood pellets or, even more so, with a heat pump. And for cause. The French equipped with a diesel boiler are the only ones who pay the true price of energy. For gas and electricity, there is, until the end of the year, the tariff shield (a block of prices financed by the State). And motorists can count on a general discount that will temporarily increase to 30 cents per liter of fuel.
Help to change your boiler
At the same time, it can be considered paradoxical to financially help the French to pay their fuel bills when the goal is to reduce fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. And this, while the aid to equip yourself with a heat pump has never been so high. For the most modest homes, MaPrimRénov’ can reach 5,000 euros. Added to this aid is the bonus for boiler conversion, the maximum amount of which is 4,000 euros.
As for the remaining surcharge, this investment, whose total cost still ranges between 5,000 and 18,000 euros (depending on the chosen technology), can be smoothed over several months or even years at no additional cost thanks to the zero loan rate. So between paying €3,000 for heating oil this winter or switching to a heat pump that costs a few hundred euros a year, the question is at least worth asking.
