Former Ukrainian gymnast Ruslan Mezentsev has auctioned off his silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to aid the war effort against Russia. The bidding took place at the end of last weekend and won about R$80,000.

Even the amount to be given for the platform is included in the donation to the Eastern European country, according to the auction organizer ‘RR Auction’. The war, which started with the Russian occupation on February 24, lasted for 5 months.

At 41, Mezentsev chose to sell the artifact and contribute to his country’s troops. More than two decades ago, she helped the Ukrainian gymnastics team win a silver medal in Sydney.
