The National Assembly votes the necessary credits to finance the total renationalization of EDF

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne had announced the government’s desire to renationalize 100% of EDF, heavily indebted and unable to launch a new nuclear program.

The National Assembly voted on Tuesday to finance by the State the 100% renationalization of EDF, an operation of 9,700 million euros aimed at getting the electricity production and supply group out of its financial and industrial stagnation.

The deputies voted for these appropriations during the examination of the draft amending budget for 2022 by 209 votes against 156. Environmentalists denounced the “mainly nuclear course”, while LR deplored the closure of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant.
