French gas storages are currently 75% full, with the goal of being full by autumn, Energy Transition Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher said on Wednesday.
“Our goal is to reach 100% before November 1,” he said. The government announced this new target in late June amid fears of Russian gas shortages, when the obligation was previously set at 85%.
The energy ministers of the European Union agreed on Tuesday in Brussels that their countries reduce their gas consumption in a coordinated manner, thus coming to the aid of Germany, after the announcement of a new drastic drop in Russian deliveries. “It’s a very good deal,” said Ms. Pannier-Runacher.
Favorable opinion of the ASN on EDF’s inspection strategy
The Minister also raised the issue of electricity, while the closure of many nuclear reactors raises fears for supply next winter.
“Of our 56 reactors, 12 are shut down today due to suspected or proven discovery of corrosion. The Nuclear Safety Authority will issue its opinion today on the plan proposed by EDF, to say whether this plan seems adequate or not”, he said.
This opinion was also issued on the morning of this Wednesday, “ASN considers that EDF’s strategy is adequate given the knowledge acquired about the phenomenon and the associated security problems”, indicates the authority in a press release.
“Today 30 of the 56 reactors are stopped, but of those 30 reactors there are 18 that obviously intend to restart, according to a plan that has also been communicated and is public, in the coming weeks,” he recalled.
