Shortage of staff, strikes… Interrupted for several weeks, air transport struggles to cope with the influx of passengers during this summer period. To the point that some airports and companies have taken drastic measures to limit traffic.
It must be said that the situation has reached a critical point, since the lack of manpower has caused major disruptions since the beginning of the year. According to air passenger rights organization AirHelp, which analyzed flight data from January to July, 66 million travelers were affected by delays or cancellations in Europe during this period. That’s one in four.
One third of passengers affected in the Netherlands
In detail, almost 2 million flights have been delayed for more than 3 hours and almost 5.5 million have been canceled in Europe since the beginning of the year. But it was in the Netherlands that flight problems were the most numerous with more than a third (34.08%) of passengers affected.
They are followed by Belgium (30.84%) and Slovenia (30.70%). France is in the middle of the table with 25.67% of travelers affected by delays, compared to 15.45% a year earlier.
