The French economy “entered a contraction zone for the first time in almost a year and a half” in August, according to a flash indicator released Tuesday by S&P Global. The composite flash index of global activity, which measures private sector activity, fell in August to 49.8, compared to 51.7 in July, the financial information agency said in its press release. An index below 50 indicates a contraction in activity, an index above this limit reflects an expansion.
