The regions are still looking for 4,000 school bus drivers to take children to their schools at the start of the next school year. This was said by the Minister in charge of Transport Clément Beaune on the France 2 antenna this Thursday.
“There are still risks (of scarcity, editor’s note),” he conceded in front of Thomas Sotto, before underlining the strong mobilization of the actors so that there is as little scarcity as possible at the beginning of September.
Asked about the number of drivers who could be absent at the start of the school year, the minister was quite optimistic. “A few hundred out of more than 30,000 drivers in France,” he hoped. A scenario that would make it “a problem of limited magnitude”, according to him.
A return of young retirees?
Clément Beaune also indicated that next Monday a final point will be organized between, in particular, the Minister of National Education and the regions to assess “any deficiency at the start of the school year and so that a solution is offered to all families”.
The government member mentioned in particular the hint of a return of young retirees who could take vacations.
Every year, around 1.2 million students arrive at their school, college or high school using a school bus, according to figures provided to AFP by Regions of France.
