On the second day of his visit to Algeria, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the help “for the diversification” of gas supply to Europe, provided by Algiers. The North African economy notably increased its exports to Italy.
“We are not in competition with Italy” in Algerian gas, Emmanuel Macron assured. “I thank Algeria” for having increased the volumes injected into the gas pipeline that supplies Italy, he said on the second day of his official visit to the North African country.

“It’s good for Italy, it’s good for Europe and it improves Europe’s diversification,” he continued, referring to the continent’s heavy dependence on Russian gas. The Head of State has also underlined the “low weight of gas in the energy mix” in France.
