“We would have to choose between pride and repentance. I want the truth and recognition,” launched the head of state, whose trip coincides with the 60th anniversary of the end of the war and the proclamation of Algeria’s independence.

Recalling the establishment of a commission that brought together French and Algerian historians to study the archives on colonization and war in Algeria, he promised the opening of “all the archives, from 1830 to 1962. The commission will have the opportunity to work on everything ” .
“Preside is to write a contemporary history. This story cannot be based on lies, oversights, stories that we would not object to,” she added.
Emmanuel Macron described his relationship with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune as “friendly and trusting”, saying his exchanges with the latter lasted until the middle of the night.
