Inflation in September: already above 6% in the first week

Although inflation is slowing down, September could close with a price increase of more than 6%according to the measurement carried out week by week by the consulting company EcoGo, led by Marina Dal Poggetto.

After three weeks above 1.5%, in the first week of September food and drink prices increased by 1%, the lowest value since the first week of July. In the past four weeks, the values ​​of this item have increased by 6.1%.

With these data, the consultant calculates that if we consider an increase of 1.4% in the following weeks, the inflation of food consumed at home could be 6.3% this month, the same level of EcoGo estimates the main inflation.

The 6.3% increase in September would in principle be based on a complains inflation in August (the official data will be known on the 14th, but which consultants already estimate between 6 and 7%), plus increases in regulated prices.

The foods that rise the most

The meat, meanwhile, is slowing down. It went from 1.8% the previous week to 1.2%. Beef meat grew by 0.6% driven by semi-finished products (3.1%). Those that increased the most were chickens and cured meats.

The fruits and vegetables are low. The latter grew by 0.7%, driven by potatoes, while fruit fell by 1.1%, due to a drop of 2.7% in citrus and 1.1% in other fruits.

Meanwhile, dairy products and eggs were up 1.7% last week, due to the 10% jump in eggs.

Thus, the average variation of the last month is 3.6% in the food category and 77.9% year on year, while in 2022 it accumulates 55.4%, according to data from EcoGo, which detects 6,000 products in 4 supermarkets.

August, with inflation between 6 and 7%

Advisors expect inflation for August that varies between 6% and 7%. Last month, the main items that pushed the price level up were fuel, public transport, prepayment, food and school fees in the province of Buenos Aires.

According to the indicator collected by the consulting firm Orlando Ferreres y Asociados, the preliminary inflation data for August (average of the first four weeks of the month against the average of the four weeks of the previous month) was 6.2% per month, while the main measurement was 5.6%.

Ecolatina foresees a floor of 6% for August, as does Equilibra. Meanwhile, other projections exceed them: C&T expects an increase of 6.5% and Analytica of 6.4%.

In the course of the eighth month of the year, the behavior of food and drink continues to weigh. According to the weekly measurement made by the consultancy LCG, staple foods accumulate in the last four weeks of August, with an average increase of 6.4% and 6.6% in the end-to-end measurement.
