The consumer price index (CPI) registered an increase of 6.7% in March, where retail inflation has accumulated so far this year, has risen 16.1% and more than 55% in the last 12 months, according to Indec data, released on Wednesday. In this context, the food category registered an increase of 7.2% and the products topping the list of the most expensive are: bread, milk, eggs, and chicken.

The food and non -alcoholic beverages category was the fourth most important increase in the month and the one with the highest incidence in all regions. For the government, these increases were based on the effects of the war between Russia and Ukrainewith a strong increase in flour and commodities, in addition to “noise inside” which yields uncertainty.

Bread and cereal increases; as well as milk, dairy products and eggs; that of meat and derivatives; and of sugar, sweet, chocolate, sweet, defined Indec, They are among the most powerful in the food category.

And this thing weighs the most among the weakest households, because almost all of their income they allocate for the basic basket.

According to the Indec survey, the products that became more expensive in March were:

  • Sugar 1kg: 10.5%
  • Butter 200 gr 10.2%;

What foods went down in March 2022:

  • Lettuce: -27.6%
  • Round tomatoes: -10.9%
  • Butternut squash: -7.6%
  • Potatoes: -5.9%; Bananas: -5.5%; Sweet Potato: -3.7%; Sunflower oil: -1%; Delicious apples: -0.8%; Onion: -0.2%:

Those who led the rise of IPC

The three things that preceded food were education, with an increase of 23.6% due to increased fees for private schools; clothing and footwear, with an advance of 10.9% due to weather change; and Housing, water, electricity and gas, with an increase of 7.7% due to the adjustment of charges.

In March, “Regulated” prices rose 8.4% and this was the “biggest increase” of the monthbecause, on average, they contributed 1.5 percent of the measurement points.

This was followed by the importance of IPC Nucleus, with 6.4%; while seasonal products and services registered an increase of 6.2%, mainly due to increases in clothing and footwear.

Measured differently, the 6.7% increase registered in March was explained on the basis of the increase 4.28% on the prices of surveyed goods and 2.39% on services.

The 6.7% increase recorded in March is the highest since 2016 to date. The second mark in the IPC importance level was 5.9 percent and was registered in September 2019, after the dollar became $ 45 to $ 60 a day in August of that year, after the resounding success of the Front of All formula on the official list led by Macri.
