Sequel to the ’80s hit, starring and produced by Tom Cruise, hits theaters in May

Paramount Pictures released a previously unseen behind-the-scenes video of “Top Gun: Maverick” on its social media on Monday, showing more of the aviation training given to the actors in the plot. 36 years later, and after complications due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the sequel starring and produced by Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible franchise) arrives in national cinemas in May.

In addition to showing this side that many are curious to know, the preview has some testimonials from the cast and crew, and among them, cruise confessed that “I wasn’t ready to do a sequel until we had a special story that deserved a sequel”.

“I only believe because there are images”, joked the studio in the caption of the post made on its official Twitter account. Watch the video:

In “Top Gun: Maverick,” after more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, the old-fashioned pilot Maverick (cruise) faces drones and proves that the human factor is still fundamental in the contemporary world of technological wars.

Miles Teller (“The Offer”), an actor who will have the great mission of playing the son of goosebest friend of Pete, Bradley Bradshaw. Glen Powell (“Stars Beyond Time”), Jennifer Connelly (“Tomorrow Express”), Jon Hamm (“On the Run”), Ed Harris (“The Lost Daughter”) and Lewis Pullman (“The Strangers: Prey at Night”) join the main cast.

And for movie fans, it’s not just Tom Cruise who will return to the feature film. The return of its former antagonist, better known as Ice Manwas also confirmed by the director Joe Kosinski. Val Kilmer returns to the sequence to reprise the character.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will make its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where cruise will be honored for his years of career. Initially scheduled for 2020, the feature underwent several changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and now, it arrives in national cinemas on May 26.

The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Tron – Legacy”) and the script was signed by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singerand was rewritten by Christopher McQuarrie.
