Whoever wonders, when they finish watching it, if there will be a sequel, know what material it has, since it is based on Little Nemo in Sumberland, which was a Sunday strip. Its author is Winsor McKay and it was first published on October 15, 1905, in Herlad of New York.

Much, much has changed the story and the characters in this adaptation. Nemo was a child and had his parents. In the film with Jason Momoa, Nemo is a girl (Marlow Barkley, which also premiered on Friday Spirited: the spirit of the holidayswith Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell) and lives alone with her father, tending and maintaining a lighthouse on an island.

Nemo’s father is not Momoa, but Kyle Chandler (bloodline), an actor pigeonholed in the role of the father who lives in front of the sea, dies and leaves only his son/daughter, who must be entrusted to the care of his uncle, as here and as in the best manchester by the seafor which Casey Affleck, the talented brother of Ben Affleck, won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Peter raised Nemo there, in the lighthouse. He does not believe in school as such and considers it, together with the nursing home, the two prisons through which an individual passes. You can imagine how Nemo’s head works when he loses his father at the age of 11, who goes out in the middle of a storm to save a ship and never comes back.

Papa Peter used to tell Nemo bedtime stories. Tales involving him in his youth and Flipp, his friend. Wonderful stories, of adventures, that took place in a World of dreams, and there was also a Sea of Nightmares there.

When Nemo has no choice but to move to the city with his uncle (Chris O’Dowd), he has a dream on his first night.

A rather vivid dream. Eloquent. Stupendous.

The legs of the bed are spread out and raised, and he navigates her and her stuffed pig -which comes to life- to the island and the lighthouse. And there you will find Flipp, snooping around.

Hawaiian Jason Momoa is Flipp.

And Flipp is looking for a treasure map that leads him to a set of wish-granting pearls. Obviously, Nemo wants his father back. And yes, the film will deal with the pain of loss and/or relationships that are, in principle, forged out of necessity rather than affinity.

Until that very moment, there is nothing but praise for The land of dreams. The father/daughter relationship, the visual effects, Francis Lawrence’s camera setup (the latest of The Hunger Games; I am legendwith Will Smith), everything makes us relax in the armchair in the living room.

No, it’s not that Momoa’s presence spoils anything, but the story begins to have twists -or rather: resolutions to those twists- that aren’t entirely satisfactory.

And it lasts two hours

Since much of the two-hour footage takes place in the fantastical subconscious realm of Dreamland, there are no rules. Anything can happen, any portal can be opened, there may or may not be gravity, you can breathe underwater, the weather is unpredictable. Of course, when characters are around, things get better, and not just visually.

Flipp, who looks like a Jack Sparrow-esque pirate, is quite the goofball, with Momoa dressed extravagantly, with a prosthetic belly, pointy teeth, horns on his head, and moving his ears in very curious ways.

The world of dreams It is a film more than childish, familiar, full of good deeds, with some humor and even similarities with Stories that are not stories. Think about how many movies you can enjoy with your kids and choose it.
