Alejo Nahuel Costa Migliarini, now known as YSY A, was 13 years old when the dream that changed his life was born in his head. Aware of the lack in the City of Buenos Aires of a freestyle competition that was spinning in his head, almost as a reflection of others that he saw in different parts of the world through videos, created “The Fifth Step”from where came artists who over time have become icons of the genre such as Duki, Wos and Trueno, among others.
In “PH: We can talk”YSY A, now 24 and already established as a rapper, songwriter and producer, among many other occupations, told how he created the competition that has become an icon, every weekend, in Rivadavia Park of the City of Buenos Aires.
“In Argentina I have not seen that there was anything like this. I was 13 and the only one who was at the Claypole”, the brains of a phenomenon who, after endless battles of improvisation, catapulted the careers of many of his colleagues, began his story. The reference was to “Halabalusa Underground,” but getting south of the Buenos Aires suburb took time and money.
He then started thinking about something similar, but closer to home and with the ability to hold a larger call.
“He was always looking from the outside and saying so it had to happen here, and my life afterward was about seeing what was happening in the world and thinking about why it wasn’t happening in Argentina. At the time it was a dream to say ‘will there be more rappers? Will I meet another who does like me and has gone crazy for it? And suddenly, a 13-year-old boy’s dream…”, said YSY A, in relation to the project that saw the light at the corner of Chaco and Doblas, in Caballito, in March 2012.
The beginning, of course, was anything but encouraging. But the musician hasn’t stopped fighting for his dream. “We were 15 people and scored sevenand we put a graffiti artist who hasn’t rapped for eight years because we didn’t close the keys,” he graphically represented.
But the best was yet to come, with artist musician and presenter Matías Berner (now “Muphasa”) as his traveling companion. “Each year that passed, two or three new ones arrived. Duki is coming in 2014, 2015. Everyone was coming, Wos, Thunder,” he said.
The videos of the freestyle battles have become increasingly viral on the internet and have aroused the curiosity of thousands of young people, who have begun to flock to the scene.
“I have the honor of having created it and I enjoy it, but ‘El Quinto Escalón’ it was the best because it was the best, and the best was because they reached the Fifth Step. It was a great symbiosis between all of them. That is why today it makes sense that we are so many names playing outside Argentina, because we all contribute our share,” she defined.
YSY A: “I invested a lot of money”
Costa Migliarini, who has recently published his latest work, “YSYSMO” admitted that he had spent a good amount of money to promote the matches which, after reaching astronomical numbers virtually and in person, had their last edition in 2017, at the Malvinas Microstadium Argentinas. Of course, cash didn’t always come out of your pocket.
“I’ve never seen a ceilingI knew I would give it my all and he would come back. I invested a lot of money as a kid, at 14, organizing events,” she commented.
She added: “My parents have always accompanied me with favors and help, and I was present at an event I used to spend everything I earned on my mother in one monthand I didn’t tell him because it didn’t make sense.
“But they have always helped me a lot and I was learning to give more and today it’s crazy, with a lot of faces and names exploding in many countries around the world. It is very strong ”, she concluded.
Having a child at 17 It was crucial for YSY A to finally decide to explore other paths. “She forced me to level up and stop floating in the squares as an event organizer, to be an artist. I had to go out and work.”
“I was trying to get rap out of the Argentine underground but it didn’t convince me either. Battles were very trendy. And in that place of what to do I was a dad and it was smart, you have to hit a rudder and do something to level up “, he revealed.
After a live improvisation by YSY A, the singer Sandra Mihanovich, another of the guests of the evening in the Andy Kusnetzoff cycle, was only able to say, asked by the host of the cycle which is broadcast on Telefé, what she thought” wonderfully extraordinary.”
