Adaptation to be directed by Jared Hess of “Napoleon Dynamite”

Jason Momoa is in talks for a role in a Minecraft movie adaptation, says website – Disclosure/Warner Bros.

Jason Momoa, star of “Aquaman” and “Dune”, is in final negotiations with Warner Bros. to star in the theatrical adaptation of Minecraft, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jared Hess, from “Napoleon Dynamite”, will direct the project which will be based on the popular game. Details about the plot or character of the show have yet to be revealed. Momoa.

Warner develops a project based on game years ago, with Shawn Levy and the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star, Rob McElhenneyamong those who were hired to direct.

Minecraft was released in 2011 and allows its players to use blocks to create structures and worlds. The game became a sensation, reaching 100 million users just a few years after launch, and helped Microsoft acquire Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014.

The films based on games are all the rage in recent years, with 20th Century Studios recently releasing “Free Guy”, featuring Ryan Reynoldsand Paramount Pictures starting a franchise with “Sonic” and “Sonic 2”.
