Robert Deniro will play a president of the United States and will star in Day Zero, the new limited series in political thriller format that will be distributed by Netflix. Here’s how he reported it Variety.
It would be the stellar debut of the star of Taxi driver Y Wild bull in a conventional series, after having put his voice in the Argentine series Whatever, by Star+. But it won’t be the first time that the Oscar-winning actor has collaborated with the streaming service of the red N, since in 2019 he was part of the Irish.
Until now, Plot details are being kept under wraps but, according to information from the aforementioned specialized Hollywood media, De Niro would play a former president of the US government.
Very active
At 79, De Niro continues to work very actively, beyond a logical stop due to the pandemic. This year he had already been seen in the cast of Amsterdamthe comedy by David O. Russell, opposite Christian Bale and Margot Robbie.
But he has worked on five other films which are in post-production -three of them with a premiere scheduled for 2023- and in the aforementioned dramatic comedy directed by Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn -played by Luis Brandoni- whose filming took him to Buenos Aires in early May.
In the series, De Niro plays Vincent, a prestigious writer of international renown who is an old friend of Manuel (Brandoni), a refined food critic. His voice should be heard in over for the first 4 episodes and he will guest star only in episode 5.
President and mobster for two
This role of president in Day Zero will join a dual role in Wise guysa new film about the Italian-American mafia in which he will simultaneously play the protagonist and his enemy, as reported a few months ago The Hollywood Reporter.
Until now there is no set shooting date of this drama by Barry Levinson, director of titles such as Rain Man (1988) and street children (1996), which recounts the clash between mafia bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello.
The last year with greater visibility for De Niro was 2019. In addition to producing and acting -with Al Pacino- in Martin Scorsese’s gangster tale, he had a secondary role in jokerwhere he famously acted as host of a late night show.
De Niro has won two Academy Awards, one for Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather II in 1975, and the other for Best Actor in 1981 for his brilliant portrayal of Jake Lamotta in Wild bullalso directed by Scorsese.
He was nominated five more times for his roles in The sniper Y You awaken, Moreover. His last Oscar nomination was as co-producer of the Irish.
He also has Emmy nominations for his portrayal of financier Bernie Madoff in the TV movie The Wizard of Lies (2017).
From the director of Narcos and the president of NBC
Day zero will be directed by Eric Newman (producer and screenwriter of the successful narcos) and NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, who will also co-write the screenplay with Pulitzer Prize-winning Michael Smith and executive produce with Jonathan Glickman.
With this series, the idyll between Newman and Netflix is perpetuated, because in addition to narcos Y Narcos: Mexicowas executive producer of the recent Traffic warden and of A true storyminiseries with Kevin Hart.
For his part, before becoming president of NBC News in 2017, Oppenheim had written screenplays for films such as The maze runner Y Jackiethe biopic on Jacqueline Kennedy directed by the Chilean Pablo Larraín.
He also served as an executive producer on the miniseries The thing about Pamwith Reneé Zellweger, broadcast in the United States by NBC, and which can be seen here on Star+.
