Mirtha Legrand recalled with overly emotional words to Lidia Elsa Satragno, known to all as Pinky, who died Thursday at the age of 87 in her home opposite the Botanical. “She was a queen of television,” said the presenter, at the opening of her traditional Saturday night program.

“My condolences to the family of Lidia Satragno, known to all as Pinky, who passed away last Thursday at the age of 87”, began Legrand, based on a text he had prepared.

Then, he put aside the paper he had in his hands and spoke from the heart: “Pinky was Mrs. TV, really. A very intelligent woman, with an exceptional physique, graceful, precious, always well dressed. It was wonderful to see her. I’ve seen her all the time.”

Pinky was a journalist, actress, model and television presenter. She also took a step into politics: she was candidate for mayor of the La Matanza party in 1999 for Alianza, and in 2007 she was elected national deputy for the province of Buenos Aires for Unión PRO.

The beloved radio and TV media figure had cancer several years ago and lived in her home across from the Botanical, where her son Gastón found her lifeless at noon this Thursday.

“The last time I saw her, about three years ago, at a Gente party at the San Isidro racetrack, she was in a wheelchair. I was with Susana Gimenez. We went to say hi to her and I don’t think she recognized me. There I gave him the last kiss. She was a queen. Wonderful”, said Legrand in “La Noche de Mirtha”.

Later, she recounted another anecdote: “Once the ambassador invited us from Asunción. There were many of us. And Pinki’s success…People have always adored her. And she left, Big Pinky is dead. Born in San Justo on November 11, 1935, Lidia Elsa Satragno began as a model and radio host.

He made his debut in 1956 as the handsome face in commercials. Her Pinky nickname was given to her by her colleague Trudy Tinky Tomis, when she was a model, due to her very pink skin.

Popularity had come fast and in 1958, she hosted her own show, Good Morning Pinky. Three years later he accompanies Bernardo Neustadt in conducting Nosotros, a pioneering cycle among small-screen journalists. They collaborated again shortly after in Incommunicado where, for the first time, a former president, in this case Arturo Frondizi, appeared in a live programme.

Pinky led several spaces of general interest such as Femínisima and several that bore her name: With a flavor of Pinky, Telepinky, A la noche… Pinky.

very early in his career was twice anointed “Woman of the Year”, the last in 1961. He also had a brief experience in the cinema.

In 1982, together with Jorge “Cacho” Fontana, he directed the program Las 24 horas de las Malvinas, in which donations were received during the war.

Lately Pinky felt more gratified by the radio than by the TV, she was reliving her childhood times. Her latest artistic intervention was to give her voice to the recently released play Ellas en mí. Months earlier, she and “Cacho” Fontana had received a well-deserved tribute during the delivery of the Martín Fierro.
