The story of the film Las festives draws on the traditional celebrations that take place in the New Year. These dates, meeting point for most families, are those annual occasions in which accumulated billing subscriptions come to light for a long time.

In the plot, María Paz (Cecilia Roth) is the woman who is going through a splendid maturity, although due to ill health she has just gone through a near-death experience. Dismissed, after a long hospitalization, she tries to reconstruct the conflicting relationship she has with her three children and invites them to spend a few days with her, in her country house.

Then Sergio (Daniel Hendler), the eldest, who apparently tries to patronize his mother’s attention; Luz (Dolores Fonzi), the rebellious and questioning daughter and finally the trans daughter Maly (Ezekiel Diaz), moving to the peaceful countryside where everything seems to flow in the best way.

But, due to circumstances and resentments that lurk in the past and are not entirely explicit, they will soon notice how the maternal personality tries to regain control.

competitive mother

The protagonist practically delegated to her friend Muñeca (marco morning), rearing their offspring. She is a good and understanding mother, but not in the eyes of her brood. The main problem with her is that she wants to live to the rhythm of her offspring and constantly competes with them, making it clear that there is a very ethereal manipulation.

Fortunately, the tone sought by the direction is subtlety. This midwife never raises her voice, nor does she fall into the drama of crying. On the contrary, she manages the threads of everyday life, in a barely perceptible way.

Their offspring’s relationships are also not an example of virtue. Sergio is going through a marital crisis discovering that his wife may be cheating on him with another man. Luz is separated from the father of her daughter Carlita, she has difficulty maintaining a stable relationship and deposits in some transient encounter, as with the gardener’s son, the hope of obtaining a pleasant moment.

In turn, Maly works as a waitress, experiences abuse from customers, and even has to overcome the ridicule she receives when someone out of place yells barbaric things at her in the street. She is as if none of the members of the trio were prepared to face life as it is, with positive and negative circumstances.

The script, written by the director Ignacio Rogers himself, together with the actors Julieta Zylberberg, Esteban Lamothe, Ezequiel Díaz and the playwright Alberto Rojas Apel, flows naturally, without lowering the line or pontificating about how family relationships should work.

On the contrary, he presents situations so spontaneously that it works as if we had installed a camera inside any family house contemporary.

To highlight, the absolute dedication of Roth, a sort of autumnal image that seems to come out of a countryside painting, the spontaneous rebellion of Fonzi, the presence of Hendler and the acting commitment of Díaz, in a demanding role.
