After a successful 55-year career, the humorous-musical group Les Luthiers has announced its last farewell to the stage.
The group was born in 1967 and has maintained its restless, humorous and critical spirit ever since.
Having achieved their goals after more than half a century of tours and introductions, Les Luthiers will say goodbye after the decision of its two “historic” members. (Carlos López Puccio and Jorge Maronna) to greet their audience.
López Puccio expresses: “This year I will be 77 and Jorge 75. We feel very vital, and artistically we believe we are in our best moment; but as we approach 80 our muscles and joints predict that they will soon begin to hinder us.
“It won’t be easy to conclude this wonderful work that we have enjoyed since we were very young, nor to greet the public that follows and supports us, but Mastropiero deserves to rest after so many years of adventures”, adds Maronna.
Daniel Rabinovich and Marcos Mundstock, two long-remembered members of Les Luthiers, passed away on August 21, 2015 and April 22, 2020. Without them, the group continued on, but their absences were felt by the rest of the members.
Les Luthiers will begin their Farewell Tour with the premiere, in Buenos Aires, of More setbacks from Mastropiero, a corollary to the long history of Les Luthiers and, at the same time, a tribute to the career of the famous composer. It constitutes, for the design of the story and the unpublished contribution of the virtues of the 2019 list, a sort of synthesis between tradition and modernity.
The premiere will take place at the Teatro dell’Opera next Thursday, January 12, and will be presented to you every weekend during the summer season. The tour will continue throughout the year through several countries – among others, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Uruguay and Spain – as well as through numerous cities in Argentina.
The authors of More setbacks from Mastropiero They are Carlos López Puccio and Jorge Maronna.
The 2019 cast of Les Luthiers is composed, in addition to them, by Roberto Antier, Tomás Mayer-Wolf, Martín O’Connor and Horacio Tato Turano, and Santiago Otero Ramos and Pablo Rabinovich as alternates. With this cast of prestigious artists, Les Luthiers has performed since March of that year in 8 countries, receiving unanimous acknowledgments from audiences and critics.
