Jorgelina Aruzzi had a difficult challenge: the actress was called to be part of the cast of Married with children in the stage version which premiered last week at the Gran Rex and which fills the hall at each performance. After Erica Rivas, one of the stars of the successful Telefe series, exited the project in the theater, it remained unknown what to make of that role vacant.
In the Married with children, each character is the cog of a hyper-oiled mechanism within the imaginary world of the Argento family: Pepe, the father, responsible for Guillermo Francella; Moni, the mother, played by Florencia Peña; Paola and Coqui, the children who make Luisana and Dario Lopilato and the neighbor, Dardo, from Marcellus De Bellis.
In this context, with imaginary figures so present and with such popular repercussions, whathow to replace Maria Elena, the character of Rivas, without replacing her exactly? With a new character, but without the incorporation distorting the essence of the project?
Dardo has a new partner: her name is Azucena
The answer is on the stage where Jorgelina Aruzzi composes Azucena, an Argentinian based in France who returns to the village, accompanying his new partner, Dardo Fuseneco. De Bellis’ character suggests that, in recent years, he separated from María Elena and began a courtship with Azucena. The work is the ideal circumstance for the official presentation in front of his friends, the Argentos.
Aruzzi’s comic record, added to his great skill and talent, makes the situation believable and, even for those nostalgic for the ineffable María Elena, his character fits perfectly into the plot and with the rest of the group already having almost two decades of dynamics installed in the public imagination.
Azucena’s ways, in principle, are far from the ways of the Argentos but, some characteristics that define his character, such as veganismthey prepare the ground for the inevitable: face to face with family and, above all, with Pepe who is far from deconstructed.
The actress has already demonstrated her flexibility some time ago with several unforgettable characters like the ones she starred for The man of your life; with her creation by Susana Ximena, the friend of the protagonist played by Griselda Siciliani in educate nina; or the lawyer Inés Sosa in 100 days to fall in love and also with Valeria Perell in the first of usto name the most recent.
The curriculum supports it
But Jorgelina also has a long list of performances to remember on stage, as well as be playwright and theater director. Throughout his career, Aruzzi also stood out for his participation in works such as Le Prenom, Next door, The truth and his sole proprietorship Carmen on the cross. But above all, with the recreation that she did, in 2018, of Niní Marshall in Nine in the air
At that time, on texts by Niní Marshall herself, and together with the director Ciro Zorzoli, Aruzzi recreated the marvelous world of characters resulting from the inventiveness of the great actress and author, such as Catita and Cándida, among many others. And her performance by Niní Marshall was as authentic as it was moving.
Aruzzi (like Flor Peña, her co-star, among other comedians) could be considered, to a large extent, the heir to the talented Niní, with her creations of characters who go to the bottom without fear of ridicule.
In this version of Married with childrendirected by Francella himself, beyond the general guidelines, it is clear that there was permission for Jorgelina to give Azucena her personal brushstrokes.
“I always like to intervene in the characters and even tragedies I try to deal with a little humor. My way of communicating is with humour,” he said last year in an interview with clarion. Some of the irreverence and grace of many of these characters are present in the new one.
On stage the Azucena proposed by Aruzzi, as well as showing many nuances that make her somewhat unpredictable, sings and dances; Y it adds a part of mischief and the same amount of delirium to this character who had the risky afternoon to join a hit installed for years.
The result is seen in the reaction of the public, which welcomes Azucena with open arms. She shines and fits in with her stage mates without interfering too much and is the perfect excuse to tell the updated story of the hilarious family. The Argentos have adopted it, and the public is grateful.
