The answer to the title question is yes. Maybe not a resounding yes, but there you are.

Actor Channing Tatum expressed it in the cover story of the magazine’s latest issue Vanity Fair.

Throughout the note on Vanity Fair Tatum has revealed that his production company, the Free Association, owns the rights to the 1990 romantic fantasy classic and is looking to develop a new version.

When asked about it, Tatum replied: “Yes, the reality is that we have the rights to do a remake.”

Vanity Fair continues to report, “The actor talks about how his production company, the Free Association, is trying to put together a new version of Ghostwith Tatum himself taking over the role once played by Patrick Swayze.”

Though once the topic was raised, the actor took it upon himself to highlight one aspect: “But we’re going to do something different,” says Tatum, noting that the 1990 original contains problematic stereotypes. “I think the remake needs to change a bit, simply because times change…”

A 500 million tank

Ghostdirected by Jerry Zucker, starring Patrick Swayze as a murdered banker whose ghost sets out to save his girlfriend (Demi Moore) of his enemies.

Swayze’s character gets help from a psychic named Oda Mae Brown, played by Whoopi Goldberg in a performance that earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Generally, Ghost it garnered five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and also won the award for Original Screenplay. The film grossed $505 million worldwide.becoming the highest-grossing film of 1990 and, at the time, the third highest-grossing film in history.

It would not be the first time…

A new version of Ghost It wouldn’t be Tatum’s first time in a classic comedy reboot. The actor would star alongside Jillian Bell in a new take on the mermaid comedy Sketcheswith genre switches, although the project has not yet passed the development stage.

Tatum then starred in Magic Mike’s Last Dancewhich is scheduled for release in theaters in February.
