The preliminary results of the 2022 census, which were finally released this Tuesday and they corrected the data on the total population of the country, allowed us to begin to see in detail what population growth has been like over the past decade in different parts of the country. Thus it was known, for example, that the province of Tierra del Fuego was the one that increased the most in inhabitants and the city of Buenos Aires that the least, even though it exceeded the threshold of three million.
This census cut also has data by department, allowing us to see how it performed population dynamics in cities and municipalities. And so it allowed us to answer several questions. One of them is what is the most populated city in the country. The other, to answer an eternal question: Who has more inhabitants: Córdoba or Rosario?
Discarding the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (3,120,612 inhabitants), which in the strict sense is a federal district with the hierarchy in this case of the other 23 provinces, the department or party with the most inhabitants in the entire country is La Matanza, which represented 1,837,774. And in second and third place on the podium the old dispute between Cordoba and Rosario. The capital Córdoba remains the second city with the highest number of inhabitants (1,565,112) and Rosario also maintains its third place (1,342,619).
following in the the ten most populated cities, La Plata repeats fourth place (772,618) but the district of General Pueyrredón, where Mar del Plata is located, fell to sixth place 682,605 moved to fifth by Lomas de Zamora (694,330). Quilmes (636,026), Salta capital (627,107), Almirante Brown (585,852) and Tucumán capital (584,798) complete the ranking.
The provinces that have grown the most in terms of population
The province of Buenos Aires is the district with the largest population in the entire country: 17,569,053 inhabitants. The province of Córdoba has 3,978,984 and Santa Fe, 3,556,522.
The province that increased its population the most compared to the 2010 census was Tierra del Fuego, with an increase of 49.86%. Neuquén follows, with 31.80% and further in third place is San Luis, with 25.11%.
Of Tierra del Fuego, it should be added that it was the province with the highest percentage of digital censuses: over 15,600 families completed the process (20.5%).
