The peculiar characteristics of each area are what differentiates each beach and allows surfers, whether they are newbies or experts in this sport, to choose where to venture based on their own style and preferences.

An important detail is that regardless of the location chosen, the views will be spectacular and will add a plus to the surfing experience in Mar del Plata.

North area

The northern beaches extend from the entrance of Parque Camet to approximately Río Negro street and are characterized by “T” shaped breakwaters, which moderate their waves by forming small bays, which makes this sector the right environment both for beginners and experts.

The Pearl

This area extends up to the intersection with via Balcarce. These are large beaches of semi-coarse sand whose waves have a pronounced slope.

This point is one of those chosen by bodyboard lovers due to the characteristics of the waves.

Varese and Capo Corrientes

Varese beach, with its fine, flat sand and gentle waves, is a bay protected by two breakwaters. It is ideal for beginners who want to learn to surf as it has a safe, gentle pause which is conducive to learning.

It extends from Torreón del Monje to Cabo Corrientes, the most salient point of the Argentine coast. Besides surfing you can learn Stand Up Paddle or SUP.

Great beach

Playa Grande is a favorite with lovers of both surfing and body boarding and stand up paddling. For its little tubular waves with long stretches, it is considered the “cathedral of surfing”.

In addition to the strictly maritime one, a plus in this area is the infrastructure it provides, since the complex has gastronomic places such as restaurants, cafes and craft breweries. This beach also offers one of the surf schools that Mar del Plata has.

Quarry point

At the end of the Punta Mogotes area and up to the Lighthouse, there is a sector with modern buildings: Punta Cantera. This beach area is characterized by having a narrow strip of sand and prominent rocks. The waves are easy and have a long path, making them great for learning.

southern beaches

After the Punta Mogotes lighthouse, towards the south, there is a sector of private spas, inns and very modern structures where surfing is also recommended. They are beaches with open sea and fine sand, ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers, as the waves are stronger and this increases the difficulty.

Taking into account what Mar del Plata means to surfing, it is no coincidence that it is home to national and world championships and that there are numerous local surfers internationally recognized for their titles.
