Pink Floyd invite their fans to make videos to celebrate 50 years of “The Dark Side of the Moon”

the legendary group Pink fluid announced the release of a remastered edition of The dark side of the moon to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the best-selling albums of all time.

In addition, the group invites a new generation of animators to participate a competition to create music videos for each of the 10 songs from the iconic 1973 album.

Pink Floyd have a rich history of collaborating with entertainers since the band’s inception, with artists such as Ian Emes and Gerald Scarfe, and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself.

The 50th anniversary will be no exception and that is why the band would like to give all entertainers the opportunity to present a new version of these timeless sound works. Animators can place up to 10 videos, one per song, into the album.

One winner will be selected by a panel of experts including Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell (Creative Director of Pink Floyd) and the BFI (British Film Institute).

Heading to the planetariums

On February 27, 1973, EMI Records held a press conference to present the Pink Floyd album, The dark side of the moonat the London Planetarium. Although the dome of the Planetarium could only display an array of stars, constellations and images of the cosmos while music played, it was an unprecedented success.

Now, fifty years later, in recognition of the iconic album and aided by major technological advances, there will be an official full-dome experience featuring breathtaking images of the solar system and beyond, rendered in 42 minutes of The dark side of the moon, in planetariums around the world.

The actual show will be divided between the 10 tracks of the album, in chronological order, each with a different theme; some look to the future and others are retro nods to Pink Floyd’s visual history, all tied to an experience of time and space, embracing the latest technology that only a planetarium can offer. He promises to be engaging; an all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you beyond the realms of the 2D experience.

One of the most iconic and influential albums of all time, The dark side of the moon Pink Floyd continues to find new audiences globally. The album was developed in part during live performances, and an early version of the suite was premiered by the band at London’s Rainbow Theater several months before recording began.

The dark side of the moon is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the United States on March 1, and then in the United Kingdom on March 16, 1973. The material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios ). in London.

The iconic cover, depicting a spectrum of prisms, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and styled by George Hardie. The dark side of the moon has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
