A summer song is to joke, to have fun. It’s not the same as a song released in another season of the year. For example, folklore cannot create summer songs. The tango, less so.
Summer songs give life beyond artistic death and they usually are fleeting and light as eternal. For better or for worse, summer themes are remembered and ironic consumption rankings are made. This doesn’t happen in the spring.
Spinetta never had summer themes. Not even Facundo Cabral. Being a summer hit isn’t for everyone. Attention never comes by itself, you have to know how to call it.

The summer songs were those of Marama and Rombai, some say. The summer theme has recipes: it must be a little silly and tilinga, contain words like “ola”, “sea”, neon bars, sex on the beach in the moonlight and sound like: “Oh baby, where are the plans what have we done… ” to hopefully conclude with “the sun is still hiding in heaven”.
