Bad Bunny faces a million dollar lawsuit brought by his ex-girlfriend

Puerto Rican singer Bad bunny he was being sued in a San Juan court by his ex-girlfriend carliz de la cruzasking for compensation of at least 40 million dollars for image rights, moral rights and damages.

The lawsuit by De la Cruz, a law graduate since 2021, against Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, Bad Bunny’s real name, is because the artist used the chorus”bad bunny” on various topics without your permission.

According to the legal document, filed March 1 in the San Juan District Court but released this Monday, in 2015, De la Cruz and Martínez Ocasio “decided it would be a captivating idea” that he, after the his stage name, include the word ‘child'”.

This was the first song that Bad Bunny recorded for the record label Rimas Entertainment, with which he signed in April 2016 and which was also sued by De la Cruz.

De la Cruz is a young Puerto Rican who studied law at the university of her country, she is also a Youtuber and influencer. She was in a relationship with Bad Bunny from 2011 to 2017, when the reggaeton singer was not that well known in the music scene.

Plaintiff alleges that Bad Bunny performed in Puerto Rico, the United States and the Dominican Republic, beginning her concerts with her voice repeating the phrase “Bad Bunny Baby”along with a backbeat. Also, Bad Bunny used the chorus again in the song two thousand 16which appears on the album a summer without you (2022).

A day before the release of that album – on May 5, 2022 -, the actor claims that the artist’s representatives tried to reach an agreement with her, who rejected it without signing any contract. “However, the day after the album that contained the actor’s voice whether or not you have consented to the use of your voice, i.e. your identity,” the lawsuit explains.

The lawyer’s voice could also be heard at all Bad Bunny shows during his tour a summer without youwhich took place in Puerto Rico, the United States and Latin America starting in July 2022. In addition to excluding his name from the artistic works created, the defendants used the distinguishable voice of De la Cruz without your consent for songs, records, promotions, concerts and social and music, television and radio platforms.
