ariel ardito He is one of the greatest references of Argentine tango and is part of a group that has once again put urban music on a global pedestal. Now he was called again to sing the National anthem of our country, but in front of the faces of players who are nothing more and nothing less than world champions.

singer He has already done it on two other occasions, but in playoff timeswhen there was still distrust with this group of players who finally challenged him at the end of last year in Dubai, obtaining the major cup after 30 years of drought.

“Yesterday, Wednesday, I started the day at 7 in the morning and I haven’t stopped taking notes; everyone calls me,” says the singer, hustle and happiness through.

“I’m lucky”

-You have already sung twice for the selection, have you become an amulet?

-NO. I am lucky to have been chosen again. I had already fulfilled a dream when they invited me to sing the Hymn in the qualifying match against Uruguay. We also won 3-0. We haven’t won like this in a long time! It was something like a dance. I never thought I’d sing for the national team again.

-And how did you get there?

They asked for me. They asked for the tanguero, if he came back. “Why don’t you sing in River?”. They said it and I found out

– Apparently they appreciated your performance.

-I had sung twice in five days, in qualifying time, but now I will sing for the world champions, it’s impossible to say how it feels.

-Have you received more comments from players?

-I know you liked the a capella version. The comments have been very good. The AFA people were very happy and let me know.

-How did your relationship with the AFA come about to get to sing the anthem?

-I had registered the Hymn on a disc with the typical orchestra. And a journalist friend, Daniel, was the liaison. I remember telling him we should sing the Hymn heartily, a cappella, for the national team. I told it to my journalist friends, I even sent it to one of them to sing a capella on my cellphone. All this reached Chiqui Tapia’s ears and I ended up invited to his birthday, in 2018. And Chiqui replied: “It’s a good idea to recover this and sing from the heart.” Then time passed, I didn’t think they would call me, but in 2021 the unexpected happened.

-How did you live those first two times?

-They called me and I sang in front of the players. People got involved, too. I was a fan too, but with a mic in hand. I also had the experience of singing for Diego Maradona in Dubai. That was great too.

-What is your relationship with football?

-I arrived from Córdoba at the age of eight and tried my hand at some clubs like Huracán and River, but I didn’t have the conditions to play in the First Division. But I played with those of the square and we faced the boys of the teams. I’m a fan of Talleres de Córdoba and have been playing football once a week with friends for 18 years. Football for me is more passion than tango, even if it’s hard to believe.

-You have friends from the football world. How did those relationships come about?

-For years I have been together with Carlos Babington, Coco Basile, Horacio Pagani, Diego Tursnei and others. We are a bar that we usually meet to eat together in La Raya, which is an old restaurant that has always been linked to football.

-What are your expectations for today at the Monumental? Because now you will sing for the champions.

– Triple the previous times. Think that there will be 83,000 people at the River stadium and surely many people will also see it at home. I’m not going as a tango singer; I go as a fan. But it is also a pride to sing the National anthem for samples and be a tango singer. Because the tango is for small children.

I am proud to sing for you and also to be a tango singer. It took 30 years to win the cup back, and the context is very strong, like the social situation and brotherhood despite differences and crises.

-Would you like to have more direct contact with the players?

-Of course, but the truth is that it’s not what I’m looking for. I don’t want to be intrusive. When I sang in a pandemic, they were in a bubble. I respect them and being able to sing looking into their eyes is glory to me. What more can I ask for!

-Does your family also have an approach to sport?

-My two daughters play volleyball. One plays for Boca and the other for Deportivo Italiano. They used to listen to tango for me, but now I listen to the music they listen to and learn. MY family is happy because today I will sing for the World Champion Team.
