mystery aheadwhich Netflix premieres today on Friday, is more or less similar mystery on board (2019), which is its sequel, and not just because it is Adam Sandler AND Jennifer Aniston in front of the cast, and the screenwriter himself. NO.

The plot is similar. In the first, an almost unprecedented success for streaming in number of views, but sharply criticized at the time, Nick Spitz (Adam Sandler) and Audrey (Jennifer Aniston) were involved in solving the murder of tycoon Malcolm Quince (Terence Stamp) . who announced on his yacht that he would disinherit all of his guests, shortly before that, after a timely blackout, he was stabbed to death.

Nick and Audrey had been invited by chance, but not now. The one who invites them to his wedding is one of the “survivors” of the first film, the Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar). The date is on a paradise island and they don’t kill him, they kidnap him.

To all this, ex-cop Nick, who had terrible aim with pistols, opened a detective agency with his wife. And they are not doing well. So the invitation is an excuse to ease the tensions within the couple and, moreover, it is the excuse to continue the same idea of mystery on boardthat if it was a big hit, why shouldn’t this sequel be?

HEY?

Is it necessary to see “Mystery Aboard”?

Audrey (Jennifer Aniston) and Nick Spitz (Adam Sandler) go to the wedding of the Maharaja, one of the "survivors" of "Mystery on the Ship".

Whoever defenestrated the original, which you don’t need to see to understand the second, will only be missing a wink in a gag, we must warn you that mystery ahead it’s better, it’s not that stupid, but it’s not a great movie either. And no, it has no equal and does not seek it with Glass onion: a knife-edged mysteryalso from Netflix, nor with any of the adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novels where you have to find out who the killer is.

Here we would say that this is the minimum.

With the accusing finger. The characters now run a detective agency, but it's not going well.

There is, perhaps, more production, not just because of the cast, but also in terms of effects. Among the new performers is Mark Strong (cruel, Shazam!Merlin inside Kingsmana piece of paper inside 1917), as the one who would come to save the potatoes, and author of the book that Audrey read so well she became a detective.

Another who repeats is Danny Boon, the French comedian, as Inspector Delacroix, yes, the one who accused them of murdering the tycoon in the first. And since much of the film takes place in France, there is local Mélanie Laurent, who also travels a lot in Hollywood (Inglourious Basterds, Nothing is what it seems) as Claudette, the Maharaja’s girlfriend.

Mark Strong leads the walk along the island's paradisiacal beach.

Of course, all those named could not be there, what interests us here is the alchemy between Sandler and Aniston, friends since adolescence and who again coincide with this as protagonists for the third time (the first was A fake wife -2011-).

The film is designed, tailor-made for them.
