A father who asked a man who was smoking an e-cigarette to “refrain from smoking near his daughter” was stabbed to death by the man.
According to the British Daily Star reported on the 30th (local time), Paul Schmidt (37), who lives in Vancouver, Canada, was attacked by an unexpected attack at a Starbucks he visited with his wife and daughter Erica (3).
Paul and Erica waited outside in the fresh air while his wife bought coffee inside the store. However, a man standing near the father and daughter took out an e-cigarette and started smoking it.
Not wanting his daughter to be exposed to secondhand smoke, Paul approached the smoking man and politely asked him to stop. The man’s response was completely unexpected. The man pulled out a weapon from his chest and stabbed Paul mercilessly in the abdomen.
Paul collapsed, bleeding, and the blood pouring from his wounds made him bloody in an instant. Paul was taken to the hospital by the police who were dispatched after receiving a report, but eventually died from excessive blood loss.
Paul’s wife said that even though her husband was being attacked, customers near the Starbucks filmed and watched the video, and no one offered a helping hand.
The man later arrested by police was identified as 32-year-old Inthedeep Singh Ghosa. In the Deep is said to have stated in a police statement that he committed the crime accidentally, and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Paul’s mother, Cathy Schmidt, requested that In the Deep be charged with first-degree murder. Unlike the second degree, the first degree murder charge must prove that the crime was premeditated.
Cathy said, “In the Deep had a knife in his arms. No one goes into Starbucks with a knife,” he said, claiming that In the Deep’s crime was not accidental. Kathy added, “Common sense makes it impossible for a person who visited Starbucks with his family in broad daylight to be murdered among so many customers.”
Canadian police authorities are receiving eyewitness information to determine the exact cause and motive of the accident.
