To the delight of fans, Sony Pictures confirmed during this year’s CinemaCon the production of the fifth film in the “Ghostbusters” franchise. Despite the news, according to the deadlinethe cast and release date of the new film have not been revealed.
In the fourth film, entitled “Ghostbusters: Beyond”, the audience was able to see more of the grandchildren of characters already known by fans, bringing Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl”) as the single mother of the characters in Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”) and Mckenna Grace (“Captain Marvel”). Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man”) plays the duo’s teacher, while Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim complete the hunter group.
Unlike the 2016 film, the sequel to “Ghostbusters” will be a direct continuation of the original films and will mark the return of Sigourney Weaver how Dana Barrett. Production was under the command of Jason Reitman (“Juno”), son of the original director Ivan Reitman.
“Ghostbusters: Beyond” took in $197 million at the worldwide box office, and secured a 63% approval rating at the Rotten Tomatoes. The film is currently available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.
