Russia said on Tuesday that its forces are ready to launch retaliatory attacks if the Russians are hit with weapons supplied to Ukraine by Western countries.
“If Russia is attacked with Western weapons, the army is ready to carry out retaliatory attacks,” Moscow’s Ministry of Defense said, quoted by Tass news agency.
According to the memo, “the attacks will be proportional to the decision-making centers in Kiev, where Western advisers are located”, mainly because of “London’s attempts to pressure the Ukrainian authorities to attack Russia.”
The statement came on the day Britain encouraged Ukraine to strike targets on Russian soil, and as 40 NATO and allied nations gathered at Europe’s largest American base in Ramstein, where arms supplies were discussed.
Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, an ally of Vladimir Putin, declared that the actions of the West and Kiev “could lead to the division of Ukraine into several states”.
Speaking to the government newspaper Rossiskaia Gazeta quoted by Interfax, Patrushev said, “As in recent years, the tragic scenarios of global crises are being imposed by Washington.”
On February 24, Russian troops invaded Ukraine, triggering a war in which large numbers of people were killed, including many civilians.
Yesterday (25), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov raised tensions, saying he saw “a real risk” for World War III. “Danger [de uma Terceira Guerra] “It’s serious, it’s real, and we shouldn’t underestimate it.”
The Chancellor justified that the risk of a new war exists due to the unprecedented sanctions imposed on Moscow by Western countries and the increased military support of Western nations to Ukraine.
