The project is in full development, so much so that HBO has already begun assembling the cast with four names, according to the specialized magazine Variety: Taylour Paige (Zola, black background by Ma Rainey), Jovan Adepo (Babylon, Guardians), Chris Gesso (Perry Mason, All dirt roads taste like salt) and Giacomo Remar (Oppenheimer, Megalopolis). Exact plot and character details are being kept under wraps, but the series’ official tagline reads: “Set in the world of the universe Item by Stephen King, Welcome to Derry it is based on the novel Item by King and expands on the vision established by director Andy Muschietti in feature films Item AND It’s the second chapter”.
Officially, the project Welcome to Derry launched as a series on HBO Max in February. It was developed for television by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs., who is writing the screenplay for the first episode of the series, based on a story by him and the Muschiettis. Andy will also direct several episodes, including the first.
Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane are co-executive producers and executive producers, and the Muschiettis are also executive producers through their Double Dream production company.
Shelley Meals, Roy Lee and Dan Lin are also executive producers. The series is produced by HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television, with Double Dream currently under an overall deal with WBTV.

Both Item collectively it has grossed over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office since its releaseand the second film is set 27 years after the events of the first, with a new adult cast replacing the children in the first part.
