8 films by Denis Côté at Le Panopticon, a new Quebec online cinema site

Digital magazine Panorama-cinéma on Monday announced its online cinema, The Panopticon, a new platform that aims to showcase lesser-known works to the general public, accompanied by unpublished supplements showcasing their themselves as works of art in themselves.

Panopticon’s first program, dedicated to director Denis Côté, sets the tone for the platform, which aims to move away from works currently being displayed in Quebec’s dark rooms.

Matthieu Goyette-Li, editor-in-chief of Panorama-cinéma, confirms that Panopticon wants to remove the influence of catalogs sold in bulk by large distribution houses, by playing the role of curator who will look left and right .movies to make programming more personalized and coherent.

The platform will also fund the restoration of films still not in the digital universe.

Title Assassin mechanics, the first choice offered to moviegoers includes eight short films by Denis Côté made between 1999 and 2005, in a new restoration approved by the filmmaker. At the time, the actor juggled between his role as a critic for the weekly DITO and a labor director.

The Quebec repertoire will occupy an area of ​​choice in Panopticon programming, as well as Canadian and foreign films that rotate fewer at major festivals.

The programs presented by Le Panopticon will be offered in the form of 7-day rentals at variable rates. The platform will never require a subscription and the profits will be shared between the rights holders and Panorama-cinema.
